Save Tender, cheesy biscuits with a fiery kick, baked on skewers for a fun, shareable appetizer or snack.
I created these Flamin Hot Spicy Cheddar Biscuit Skewers for a game night with friends, and they quickly became everyone's favorite fun appetizer. The skewers make serving easy and mess-free.
Ingredients
- All-purpose flour: 2 cups (250 g)
- Baking powder: 2 tsp
- Baking soda: ½ tsp
- Kosher salt: 1 tsp
- Sugar: 1 tbsp
- Smoked paprika: 1½ tsp
- Cayenne pepper: ½ tsp
- Crushed Flamin Hot corn chips: 1 cup (30 g), plus extra for topping
- Unsalted butter: ½ cup (115 g), cold and cubed
- Buttermilk: 1 cup (240 ml), cold
- Sharp cheddar cheese: 1¼ cups (125 g), shredded
- Scallions: 2, finely sliced
- Jalapeño: 1, deseeded and finely diced (optional)
- Wooden or metal skewers: 8 (8–10 inches long)
- Melted butter: 2 tbsp, for brushing
- Extra crushed Flamin Hot chips: for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare baking tools:
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Line baking sheet with parchment paper. Soak wooden skewers in water for 10 minutes if using.
- Mix dry ingredients:
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, sugar, smoked paprika, cayenne, and 1 cup crushed Flamin Hot chips.
- Cut in butter:
- Add cold cubed butter. Cut into the flour mixture with a pastry blender or fork until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add cheese and add-ins:
- Stir in shredded cheddar, scallions, and jalapeño (if using).
- Add buttermilk:
- Add cold buttermilk and mix gently just until combined. Do not overmix.
- Shape biscuits:
- Divide dough into 8 equal portions. With floured hands, shape each portion into a 2-inch ball and flatten into a disk.
- Skewer biscuits:
- Thread each biscuit disk onto a skewer, pressing gently to secure. Leave space between each disk if making multiple per skewer, or use one large disk per skewer.
- Assemble for baking:
- Place skewers on prepared baking sheet. Brush each biscuit with melted butter and sprinkle extra crushed Flamin Hot chips on top.
- Bake biscuits:
- Bake for 16–18 minutes or until golden brown and cheese is bubbling.
- Serve:
- Cool slightly before serving warm.
Save My kids love helping thread the biscuit dough onto skewers, turning snack time into a hands-on family activity. We often share these while watching movies together.
